Jeanne Moreau was born in 1928 and studied at the Paris Conservatoire, making her stage debut in 1948 shortly before making her screen deubt. Her theatrical career gained momentum from the state with the Comédie Française and later with the Théâtre National Populaire, but it wasn't until starring in Louis Malle's Elevator to the Gallows and The Lovers that she was launched into international fame. She soon became the screen's incarnation of French femininity, projecting both worldly sophistication and earthy sensuality, in a wide range of roles. Moreau has worked with an exceedingly diverse and acclaimed array of international filmmakers including Orson Welles, François Truffaut, Jean Renoir, Jacques Becker, Michelangelo Antonioni, Joseph Losey, Marguerite Duras, Elia Kazan, Rainer Werner Fassbinder, Luc Besson, Wim Wenders, and many others.
